Looking Back

My journey throughout this course, 631 Health Promotion, allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of health promotion concepts, principles, theories/frameworks, and directly relate them to certain health topics, issues, and trends. Not only has this course allowed me to explore general health promotional models, but it also provided me with the ability to create my own model centred around a topic of my choice. I really enjoyed being able to develop a health promotion model that focused on the senior vulnerable population in Canada as this is a population I strongly advocate for. This was my most powerful learning moment as I was able to see how all the pieces come together to support individuals and their health.

Now that this course has come to an end, I can say that I truly enjoyed learning about the different health promotion frameworks and the impact they had on different groups/populations of people. It was interesting to see how important it is to have community involvement and how engagement worked hand in hand to make improvements towards health promotion that address issues voiced by individuals. Reading and interacting with others who shared their community engagement frameworks allowed for a deeper understanding of this and for a good discussion.

In particular, I loved some of the conversations I shared with my classmates throughout the semester. We engaged in discussions that allowed me to analyze certain topics from a different point of view. Raising questions and providing personal opinions on a lot of the topics allowed me to see how others felt about certain health promotion topics and realize their passion for it.

A discovery I made during the course that was exciting to me was noting some of the changes Canada has made to work to support their aging population. Providing services, promoting social inclusion and safety, supporting aging at home, and making life more affordable are just a few recent changes made to help individuals age healthy and continue to live in their homes.

Overall, I can say that I truly enjoyed this semester and engaging with the material and my fellow classmates throughout the course. I appreciate all the feedback I was given and cannot wait to move forward.

Best of luck to everyone,

Sabrina Janevski
